Door Jamb Machining

Efficient production of door jambs

Door jamb folding, assembly and finishing is a complex, step-by-step process. Whether manually loading or automated CNC through-feed systems, LEHBRINK’s top-quality, machines for door jamb machining perform each complex task with absolute precision and reliability.

Depending on the production requirements, you can select the appropriate options to perfectly equip the manufacturing centers to process special materials and jamb styles, construct corner joints and/or assemble fittings.

Common characteristics and features of LEHBRINK machines are:

  • Versatile array of jamb profiles and materials
  • Measuring rod
  • Precisely clamped linings
  • Tear-free 90° and 45° saw cuts (patented)
  • Customized user interfaces, dedicated data programming
  • Top-quality, low-maintenance components
  • Robust and solid machine design for highest precision and machine availability

V-groove milling cutter: Making the architrave

The architraves are processed in through-feed operation. The detailing steps are adjusted according to customer requirements.

Example for architraves with chamfer: First, the left and right side of the architraves are sized and reference milling is carried out on the surface (right and left). After that, rebates are made on the right side of the doorjamb, which are provided with a chamfer. Then, the foldings are pre and post-milled.

Applying the security tape

In order to guarantee the stability of the groove in the subsequent processing steps of the door jamb machining, a tape is automatically attached to the back side of the unfolded mitered jamb part. It will be removed after applying the glue and folding the doorjamb. This happens both in strings (end to end), as well as with each mitered door jamb part individually.

Gluing of folding angles

To ensure the strongest possible hold of the architraves, the precise application of hotmelt adhesive and/or PVAC glue is essential. On machine lines for the door jamb machining from LEHBRINK, only branded products are used to achieve a high-quality result. The glue is applicated in through-feed operation. The adhesive can be applied either continuously or intermittently.

Folding and pressing station

Immediately after applying the adhesive, the architrave is mechanically brought into the correct shape and held in place until the adhesive starts to set. In order to ensure the accuracy of the folding process, the station is made with high-quality components and torsion-resistant parts.

Post-processing of the mitered jamb parts

Before the trim can be pressed into the center panel, post-processing steps are carried out in order to process each trim according to customers‘ requirements. Post-processing steps can be: length and thickness of tongue, post milling of wall connecting trim, etc..

Assembly of U shaped door jambs

Now, the U-shaped door jambs are assembled: the rebate and the decorative architrave are pressed into the supplied center panel. The architraves can be mounted offset towards the center panel to minimize waste for 45° joints. For quality optimization, the assembly machine can optionally be equipped with a width measurement of the pressed U-shaped door jamb.verpressten Zarge ausgestattet werden.

Machining of corner joints for U- L & block jambs

After the doorjamb is fully assembled, it moves into a sawing, routing and drilling station. The cutting of the U or L shaped door jambs and block door jambs on 45 or 90° corner joints takes place, as well as all routing and drilling work for possible joints such as Elepart, Lamello, dowels, etc..

Depending on the quality and quantity requirements, the individual work steps are distributed among several interlinked machines, or everything is done in one setup. Multiple drilling spindles customized to the requirements are used, as are routing spindles rotating in opposite directions to prevent tearing. The number of revolutions and feed rate can be varied within the program for each product or material. The clamping elements that hold the U-shaped jamb in a right-angled position and the measuring system that determines the exact position of the jamb ensure high precision.

Strike and lock plate processing

In the door jamb processing machine, the following drilling and processing steps are carried out:

  • Drilling of screw-in hinges
  • routing of 3D and book-hinge, strike plates (also multiple interlocking processing possible)

Within the processing area, the door jamb is precisely positioned to the right and left of the area by pneumatic alignment and clamping elements. By using measuring pistons the greatest possible positioning accuracy with respect to routing depths, etc can be achieved. Thanks to the heavy steel structure of the machine and the exact clamping system, vibration-free processing is guaranteed.

Door jamb cleaning

In the cleaning station, the finished door jambs are cleaned from chips on the side and from below with rotating, soft horsehair brushes. The interior cleaning is carried out via a swivel extraction hood. The hood adapts to the inner dimension of the doorjamb via lateral swivel. A servomotor controls the swivelling to achieve the greatest possible precision and quality of cleaning.

Rubber seal feeding device

In the feeding device, the rubber seal is inserted into the door jamb through a guide channel according to its geometry. It is then trimmed to the correct length with a cutting knife.
Optionally, a magazine for up to eight different rubber seal types is available.

Dismantling of decorative architraves

It is of high-importance that the decorative architraves are dismantled with extreme caution, to ensure that they do not get damaged while being released from the center panel. Otherwise, the fixation glue points that have been attached to the architrave for safe processing are likely to leave marks.
It is also possible to rotate the decorative architrave to the subsequent more compact packaging.

Packaging and carton sealing

The door jamb parts are moved into a packaging station. An employee places the individual parts of the jamb in an automatically prepared cardboard box and makes a final visual inspection/quality control. The carton is then automatically closed, glued and, depending on the requirements, i.e. stacked on a pallet.
